Despite significant basic science advances, the research community still lacks simple, nontoxic, and effective therapeutic strategies to prevent, delay, or reverse Type 1 diabetes.
The traditional research process (see image at right) can take many years to develop new therapies. The Brehm Coalition has adopted an approach that is much more fluid. The collaborative nature of the group gives the scientists the freedom to formulate research pathways and goals that challenge today’ s boundaries. They conduct joint experiments and do experiments for each other, catering to the uniqueness and infrastructure of each institution.
